Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) Replacement Hospital - LEED SILVER (projected)

VCMC is the first public hospital where Design-Build contract was based solely on project and program performance criteria.

A design competition was used to determine the "Best Value" selection of the Design Build Team. 

The VCMC project began construction in 2013 as permit drawings are developed and submitted to OSHPD. Projected completion: mid 2017.

rggroup has a full-time team on site acting as an extension to the Client's own team and ensuring the right expertise is available at all times during this fast-paced design build project.  

Our team on this project covers the project from concept to closeout. Our role encompasses:

Program and Contract management (performance criteria and program development, development of RFP process)

Design Management (tracking design progress, ensuring alignment with scope and requirements, user group management and overall coordination, providing technical peer reviews for architectural, civil, structural , MEP and specialty disciplines (elevators, pneumatic tubes, waterproofing, acoustics and vibration...))

Permit Management (OSHPD, licensing, and local authorities...)

Construction Management (contract, schedule and cost oversight and review, change management and risk assessment)

Construction Administration (IOR services, field observation documentation, project logistics and coordination with clinical departments, infection control, and facilities management) 

Medical Equipment budgeting, review and coordination

Project Facts...

While at CO Architects in California, Fadi Nassar, now of rggroup, was involved in the technical detailing development and coordination of the patient floors and the Diagnostic and treatment wing of the project. 

Some of Mr. Nassar's responsibilities included:

Lead  role in interior details and constructability reviews

Development of complex and custom fire rating and interior framing details.

Coordination and conflict resolution between engineering disciplines, structural, and architectural drawings

Implementation of lessons learned from prior hospital construction projects to ensure maximum efficiency and streamline the resolution of typical issues.

Project Facts...

While at CO Architects in California, Fadi Nassar, now of rggroup, had a lead role in the construction administration and on-site team management of this project. Ray Chandler, now of rggroup, was assistant construction administrator at CO Architects, undertaking all project documentation, field observation, and general coordination. 

Some of Mr. Nassar's responsibilities included:

Lead architectural construction administration.

Overseeing and coordinating with on-site team of engineers, architects and support staff.

Daily Owner meetings and Daily Field Walks with Contractor.

Leading complex (BIM) coordination sessions between all parties.

Managing document preparation schedule & performing QC on Change documents.

Responding to RFIs and reviewing project submittals.

Meeting with OSHPD field staff and reviewing Change orders, Submittals, RFIs…

Project Facts...

While at Hospital Designers Inc. (HBE Corporation), Fadi Nassar, now of rggroup, was Senior Contract Administrator on this project.  

Responsibilities included:

Contract Administration and on-site project management for the Architecture and Engineering Team.

Coordination and follow up with OSHPD and vendors re: deferred approvals (medical equipment, MEP, and elevator seismic anchorage).

Coordination between the construction and design arms of the Design-Build firm.

Verification of change order costs and merits, and the development of ROMs, change requests.

Performing quality control on change orders, review changes with all parties (IOR, Construction group, OSHPD).
